Alan Cassidy has made the third ascent of Dave MacLeod's 8c+ sport route Metalcore at The Anvil on the east side of Loch Goil.

MacLeod climbed the route back in 2007 and Malcolm Smith nipped in to make the second ascent as well as adding his own 8c+ of The Blood Diamond to the super steep schist cliff.

I'm really excited to have my name up there with Malc & Dave in the only Scots to climb the grade.

Alan Cassidy ticks 8c+

The Anvil is described in the UKC Logbooks:

The Anvil is a massive free-standing boulder on the east side of Loch Goil. It is marked on 1:25000 maps as Uamh Innien, 6km south of Lochgoilhead. It is steep on three of its aspects, giving very intense climbing on good schist. A few of the routes suffer from seepage after heavy rain and require a few days of dry weather to dry out fully. In summer it seems to stay dry most of the time.

This ascent of Metalcore adds to Alan's already impressive 2011 ticklist of Unjustified 8b+/c at Malham Cove and True North 8c at Kilnsey, both in Yorkshire.

Matt Pycroft was on hand to film the recent ascent of Metalcore and will be releasing a video soon, until then we have the following video stills from Matt:
