On November 2nd over 31 competitors took part in Scotland's first ParaClimbing competition at Edinburgh International Climbing Arena. A further 27 people attended the event as a taster session, many trying ParaClimbing for the first time.
Kevin Howett, Sport Development Officer for the Mountaineering Council of Scotland commented: "The response to both the competition and the come-and-try sessions was tremendous, and the enthusiasm and determination of all the climbers was an inspiration."
There were nine disability categories with competitors visiting from all corners of the UK and even from as far as the United States. Routes were set specifically for the individual disability categories by an experienced team of routesetters. Quadruple amputee climber Jamie Andrew - Ambassador for the GB Paraclimbing Team - also supported the event.
