The IFSC has cancelled all three recently rescheduled World Cups in China following the announcement on 9 July by China's General Administration of Sports that no international sports events will be held this year in the country, apart from the trials for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games and a few other key events, citing "science and order" as the reason behind the ruling.
In accordance with the Chinese Mountaineering Association, the IFSC has decided to cancel the three IFSC World Cup competitions scheduled in Chongqing, Wujiang and Xiamen between 23 October and 6 December.
The upcoming World Cup rounds in Briançon, France (Lead) in August, Salt Lake City, USA (Boulder, Speed) in September and Seoul, Korea (Boulder, Speed, Lead) in October are currently still scheduled to go ahead as planned, albeit with new COVID-19 event protocols in place.
A decision regarding the IFSC Asian Championships - an Olympic selection event - also scheduled in Xiamen from 10-13 December, is yet to be made.
