The BMC announced: 'Initially hired as Interim Executive, Paul stepped up as the interim CEO in November 2020 and quickly impressed and gained the respect of the BMC as a whole. Having more than 20 years' experience in the elite sport world and a lifelong passion for the outdoors, Paul easily settled into the role of CEO despite having to immediately deal with difficulties caused by the pandemic.'

Paul has previously worked as an Exercise Physiologist for the British Olympic Association and took on a number of different roles prior to becoming Performance Director for England Netball and moving on to British Wheelchair Basketball. In the following years, Paul worked as a consultant, supporting sports in the development of their strategic plans and on their Talent Pathways and Elite Programmes.

'Paul has led and managed England Netball and British Wheelchair Basketball to multiple unprecedented successes effected with processes of significant change, created modern cultures of performance and professionalism, and authored and executed company-wide business strategies,' the BMC's news release reads. 'One of Paul's most memorable highlights was seeing England Netball complete a series whitewash of the Australian team in the Winter Test Series 2013.'

A keen climber in his 20s and 30s, Paul enjoyed visiting crags around Yorkshire and climbing at Gogarth before work and family commitments took up more of his time. He also enjoys hillwalking and solo camping trips.

Paul says: "I'm delighted to be joining the BMC team at such an important time. I look forward to working with volunteers, staff and partners to deliver the new strategy and build the BMC into an organisation that every climber and hillwalker wants to join."

Good luck ! The BMC is worth fighting for.

A lot of solid Netball experience there, and I nearly missed the footnote that he used to do a bit of climbing.

Good luck.

The press release says his carrer highlight was whitewashing the Aussies at Netball. So we can expect medals galore at the climbing comps, but access and conservation might be a bit lower on the priority list.

Give me a CEO who can negotiate better access to Pembroke and they'll have my vote for life.

Seems a good appointment to me. He seems to have done a good job as interim CEO and seems popular with the office staff.

FYI, Dave Turnbull, ex CEO has now moved over to head up the ACT so you now have a better chance of getting your better access at Pembroke as the new CEO can concentrate on being a CEO. Seems a good plan to me?
