Reported on Javu.co.uk is a news of a direct version to the classic E6/7 Tears of a Clown at Sennen Cove, Cornwall.

The new route, climbed by Exeter based Alexis Perry, is now named Tracks of My Tears and avoids the traverse rightwards to a ledge bumping the grade up to a tough E8.

Reporting on Javu, Dave Henderson writes:

"Alexis become interested in the wall last summer after repeating a line similar to that climbed originally by Mark Edwards (you can see Alexis' chalk on the photo above). After spending some time getting to know the moves he successfully lead the route in prime spring conditions on 7th March 2011, belayed by his good lady wife Mandy (who had invested a considerable amount of time belaying Alexis over the winter whilst he dicked about on a top rope). Alexis is a little unsure on the grade but by the sounds of it nasty E8 is more than likely - thin 6c moves with potential for a large fall onto a granite shelf."

The direct line was attempted by the original first ascensionist Mark Edwards and Mark described his efforts in this UKC forum thread:

"I have linked the moves up the [direct] wall via top-rope, but thought it was too thin to climb for the gear on offer... it's hard. This one is for someone in the future."

Excellent effort. I spent a while looking at that line and it's completely nails with non existent gear. Turns a weird route into a proud line

it's yet to make the long journey from camera to internet. don't expect anything clever- only the two of us there and neither of us had a hand free for filming. more for evidence than entertainment.
