British Finalists in Banff Mountain Book Competition

A handful of books by British authors and publishers have made the longlist in the prestigious Banff Mountain Book Competition, which is part of the annual Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival in Alberta, Canada.

In the Adventure Travel category, The Man Who Climbs Trees by James Aldred (Ebury Press, Penguin Random House) and Walking the Americas by Levison Wood (Hodder & Stoughton) are amongst the five shortlisted books.

Art of Freedom: The Life and Climbs of Voytek Kurtyka by Canadian author Bernadette McDonald and published in the UK by Vertebrate Publishing is longlisted in the Mountain Literature category. This book has also been shortlisted for the Boardman Tasker Award for Mountain Literature.

British writers were recognised in the Guidebooks category, with Simon Richardson's Chasing the Ephemeral: 50 Routes for a Successful Scottish Winter (Mica Publishing) and James Rushforth's Ski Touring and Snowshoeing in the Dolomites (Cicerone Press) joining three other guidebooks from Canada and Bulgaria.

Nick Bullock's article Threshold Shift - published in Alpinist Magazine - was longlisted in the Mountaineering Article category alongside three US writers.

The winners of each category will be announced during the festival on 2nd November.
