French Kissing in Burbage Quarries

Twenty-one year old Simon Moore has climbed a new line up the gently overhanging wall to the right of Fox House Flake in Burbage South quarry. The route involves French 7b+/7c climbing and is protected by a skyhook and a prehistoric peg, which is clipped from the ledge, before the hard climbing even begins. Needless to say, this inadequate gear does little to protect the crux moves on small, but positive edges. Simon has named the route French Kiss and offered a grade of E8 6b/c "or thereabouts". Simon's ascent a week last Sunday marks the start of the grit season proper. With a number of key projects being attempted at the moment...watch this space.
