When is a solo a solo? Does it count if you use bouldering mats and spotters, as Kevin Jorgeson and Jason Kehl did on the sport micro-route, The Fly at Rumney (see the news report below)? Dave MacLeod quite rightly asked that question in the thread associated with that news item (link).

With pads getting bigger and bigger, and stacked higher and higher, and with the development of inflatable Air pads, climbing short routes ropeless can be made relatively safe.

But does the below count as a solo? Some may have seen this before. Looks like the future is here and no doubt some enterprising company will be developing circus safety nets specifically for climbing.
