Sharma gets Neanderthal, ~9b

© UKC News
After having spent the last few days shoveling snow from the top of the crags, and after having fallen off the last move, a big throw from a small crimper to a sloper, of the First round, first minute project 3 or 4 times, Chris Sharma finally sent...Neanderthal, 9b, in the Santa Linya cave! I'm no expert on the Santa Linya cave, but I believe this is the second route, after La novena enmienda, to climb the whole cave and top it out. It has been described as "a sustained 9a to a 2 finger pocket, followed by an all out dyno: then, several powerful boulder problems, no rests".
Chris has worked the route on and off for around two years now, so success wasn't a huge surprise. Two days earlier, he fell from the last move of this 40m monster, and after a rest day it went down.
