Certainly looks like you went right too low down. Did you carry on up the E2 or reverse?

Very easy to get lost on this if you use the old Kev Howett book - it describes only one route on the Old Man, and helpfully shows a photo of climbers on a completely different route (without any caption). Daft!

Hope you're well. In fact unless you have seen the right line on a topo you can't just believe that something this 'easy' can take the overhang 6-8m left of where I am.
Top tip if you do stour (or Hoy) and your'e on your own: Leave your email address under a rock at the top of the cliff and ask bird watchers / walkers to forward their shot- that's how we got this shot- you know just like babysitters leave their phone numbers on tear off slips in the newsagent!!!
