Topo for sport routes at Hangingstone Quarry, Leicestershire.
Grades and stars re-estimated to be closer to objective fact. Routes with ?? just estimated and not climbed/attempted.
1. New Route F7a?? *??
Short but looks tricky and quite good.
2. Old Rock 'n' Roller F6b **
Could be F6a+. Nice, stylish route, finish leftwards for most fun.
(3. WW - Weekend Warrior E3 5b)
4. New Route F6c **
Face via opposing sidepulls, good and interesting climbing.
5. Sheer Heart Attack F6c ***
Could be F6c+. Very good climbing, fiercely technical in middle. 3rd bolt is hard to clip.
6. New Route F7a/b?? ***??
Sheer wall. Looks excellent.
7. Helloverhang F5??
8. Vertex Left F4+??
9. Vertex Right F4+??
10. Christ Almighty F6b+ *
Poorly described in current guidebook. Start on left and swing right at 3rd bolt. Quite good.
11. Plutonium F7a?? **??
Looks very good and quite reasonable at grade.
12. Holy Ghost F6b *
Could be F6a+. Short crux, but pleasant. Lots of bolts.
13. Crypt F6a+ **
Very good line and interesting, tricky climbing. A bit of loose rock still, could be *** without this.
14. Christ F6a+?? *??
Large groove right of hideous rockfall. Looks a bit scrappy.

Thanks for posting this. Is there any chance of getting a higher resolution copy?

Not at the moment, sorry, I resized the basic picture and then added the lines to this size. It's all obvious when you're there due to the bolts, though.

Used this today, really useful thanks. Some good climbs amongst the loose rock!

Cool, glad it's useful. I definitely think it makes a better sport venue than trad venue (the routes as if they'd be pretty grim as trad), and approve of the bolting effort. Although we have a good general trad ethic in this country, there's some times where common sense should take precedence and I think this is one.

Yeah agreed at THIS venue bolts seem to be a good idea due to the lack of protection but mainly because it means not topping out on the golf course. There's some really nice climbing in Leicestershire we need to be considerate to others to ensure we maintain the ability to access them even if we don't always see eye to eye with the other people. Lets maintain the British trad ethic unless there's significant reasons, like at Hangingstone Quarry, not to.

Thanks for the topo. Headed over to Hangingstone quarry today and found some really nice routes. The routes in the centre and to the left hand side seemed solid enough but it was very overgrown at the base. It looked like some rock has fallen to the right of the crag but I'm not sure how recent this is.
