Wild camping on the dunes above the beach. No-one there but the two of us.

I'm not sure what it is that's stopping me say a 5 - probably the composition and the crop. What's the original like?

great shot, but I'm not voting until he horizen gets straightened

5 for the sheer joy of it.

Original had a lot of foreground (featureless beach) as the dunes were quite high, so kept the shot wide and cropped out the foreground. Thought about tweaking the horizon, but then the figure in the centre wouldn't be vertical.
groovejunkie - 27/Oct/09
I suspect it would be less noticeable that the figure wasn't vertical, than the horizon isn't horizontal.
Nice shot though and excellent choice of camp site! :o)

Think it's a great shot, love the single figure at the forefront nothing wrong with the horizon here, looks more like the natural curvature to me.

Great shot, brilliant shows the true remote and wild feel to the highlands and islands !

your horizon is a bit off!
mulletcocktail2000 - 09/Nov/09
which beach is this?
frecro - 09/Nov/09
Not sure of the actual beach's name but it was just north of Sollas on North Uist.
groovejunkie - 14/Nov/09
Found it! The Beach is Traigh Iar, it's on the left hand side of the spur above Sollas.
groovejunkie - 14/Nov/09
That beach is not deserted! (I can't help being a pedant)

Fantastic shot, you got an incredibly evocative scene at just the right moment.
Any chance of getting a copy of the full resolution shot?

I cannot conceive of why a picture taken at an odd angle but entirely predictably, in a climbing competition has been rated higher than this.

looks to me that the horizon is fine. it looks of due to there being land at the left of the picture not the right giving it a slanted effect.
great shot
dave4430 - 20/Nov/09
Very nice but makes me fall over due to the horizon.
