Great route, why has this now been bolted?

Good question. Did'nt we climb together on Malta at some point in the 80's? There's quite a bit of bolting going on in Malta unfortunately, thankfully mostly on new harder routes although Wied Babu East Side got bolted up with crap bolts by a bunch of Italian military people. The bolts were replaced with god quality ones in the meantime.. Xaqqa is still a bolt free zone but it was also bolted up in the past by the same Italians who basically ignored local ethics. Most of the crap bolts have been removed. The ones on this are good quality though. There's three on the had first section up to the ledge where the route joins Via Direttissima.

Don't think so Simon but I think we corresponded about a few new routes. Was back in Malta a couple of months ago (not climbing) and I saw some of the new bolting you mention. Real shame about Motorpsycho. I have a few pics of my own from the same era and I will upload a few of these too! Happy days.

I'll really look forward to seeing them - give us a call next time you're in Malta we'll do a couple of routes ;-)
