Either Health and Safety, or tradition, but certainly not any good reason. Given there are significant and impressive areas of Salisbury Crags that are set back from the path and could easily have a discreet barrier and warning signs than only experienced climbers should go in, it's bloody obvious areas of this should be opened up.
