It is on the Aicken's range which is above the lower deception river in Arthur's Pass. Was a bit like striding edge but significantly more serious (length, egress, distance from civilisation etc.). We stayed at pfeiffer biv: http://www.remotehuts.co.nz/huts/pfeifer/

Thanks, I thought it looked a bit like that area, just couldn't place it. Everything in New Zealand feels serious compared with the UK!
