Taken around 2009, Stan's also retired now. They were both on the Beacon Wall yesterday climbing together. I've been climbing with Stan today, full sun in the Moelwyns.

A quick tale about Davey... he was climbing with Frank Corner on Pen Trwyn one day (this was maybe twenty five or more years ago). Their combined ages even then was probably over a hundred. Two old ladies were wandering along the road under the crag - when they saw Davey and Frank. The two old dears tut-tutted to themselves, then one said:
'Still, I suppose it keeps them off the streets!'
The other replied:
'It's the mothers I think of!'
Nice pic Bill. Davey and I go back a long way - to 1962 in fact when, believe it or not, I was his hero. He was a schoolboy then, I was instructing at Og Cot and we often met in Cwm Idwal when I would advise him on what to climb. I wore a flat cap in those days and he thought I looked hard !
I moved on to other things while Davey did very well in outdoor pursuits - but we keep in touch (vaguely) and I have fond memories of climbing with him.
