These over-engineered Karabiners were originally designed for the RAF Mountain Rescue Teams.

Hello Deepstar,
I had four of them in the early sixties which were of course "knockoff" !

Hi Ian, I bet you wish you had kept them, they are as rare as the proverbial Hen`s Teeth now!

Very true - I really did not climb much after I moved to Canada in 1974, but for many years I kept a Whillans sac full of old gear. In addition to the Scotts it contained a pair of PA's, nylon and perlon slings, steel and aluminium karabiners (some with black and white tape which were those that I shared with Mo)and it came with us through western Canada, Texas and Montreal. But the musty smell eventually got to us and somewhere along the way it got dumped. Pity really, but you are quite right - I should at least have kept the Scotts !

they were issued to RAF mountain rescue team members ,right up to the mid 70s,but were not manufactured for them ,there original use was attaching loads to parachutes .
