Thanks Grunon! It was my first day in the Alps and a pretty lonely place. The weather was iffy apart from this brief moment of glorious brightness. The night was clear though and the stars were something else.

Trying to work out where you are - not many glaciers in the Aigs Rouges. Are you on Mont Buet, looking across to the 'back' of the Aigs Rouges proper? Aiguille de Mesure and Col de l'Encrenaz on the left?

I've been to the Aiguilles Rouges, but the classic popular bits whilst waiting for the chance to go across the way to the higher peaks:but this just makes me want to go here.It looks great. If this was in Britain anywhere, it would be Mobbed.
Nature has composed the scene in a brilliant way, and you have taken a really inspiring picture version of that beautiful template.Worth a full five.

Can someone name a few peaks for me please? I know the area but am really struggling to get my head round where this was taken from!!
Cracking photo - five from me.

The bivi is at 2700m on the shoulder before the final 400m rise to the summit of of Mt Buet. The view is looking southeast so the peaks are as Jon mentioned above - Aiguille de Mesure and Col de l'Encrenaz on the left, Aiguille des Chamois further right.
