The longest glacier in the Alps at 23Km. It makes an excellent ski tour from Jungfraujoch in the North to Fiesch in the South

Yes, I've skinned down it Mike! I should add we were bailing out of Konkordia in bad weather and deep snow and progress was only possible with skins. Just to add to the excitement were were all roped up too. When we came to a slightly steeper section I'd let my skis (skins) run. As our heels were free the person behind me would be yanked forward and face plant... and the person behind him... and the person behind him... Hilarious for the first few times then rather tedious! The icing on the cake was then wading up to Riederalp There was so much snow the only safe way was direct ascent so we didn't cut the slope. Happy days!

Great story Jon. Skinned down though? I can't say I would fancy that, there are so many crevasses that I thought speed was essential. A beautiful and lonesome place.

With the gentle angle and really deep snow the ONLY way was to skin! The previous year I'd skinned back up to Jungfraujoch in similar conditions - and I wasn't going to do that again!

Haha. Tricky decision, slog back up to Jungfraujoch and an expensive train ride down, or risk life and limb amongst the crevasses. Think I might have waited it out in that lovely hut, or compromised on Lötschenlücke
