This photo was marked as "Walter's Rib" October 1983. However while checking against the latest guide, I noticed that Paul was actually climbing Angua by mistake....this would therefore seem to be the first ascent! The weather was cold and windy [note the curve in the ropes]. The hanging rope to the left was from our earlier top roped ascent of the yet to be climbed "Wolf at the Door".

Is Angua genuinely an independent line? It seems barely differentiated from Walter's Rib. The climber in this image is definitely on Walter's Rib.

Hi Will, the two climbs start and finish at the same points...with only 3-4 moves difference, so I agree, not really independent! Paul had some hand written descriptions for the existing climbs that were brief with "sand bag" grades [think Walter's Rib was given HVS!]. Our description implied the route went straight up above the plaque, which looked ok. In typical Paul style he set off to solo it, got to about 10ft, could see the way ahead looked tricky so reversed down and geared up...second go he went straight up the flakes, placing a couple of runners, finishing the climb without a hitch.

OK. Think I'm with you. So start at the plaque as for WR, but go direct up the flakes avoiding the arete? Then presumably come left to gain the juggy ledge at the top of WR? Will have to have a go next time I'm there!
