This is the best photo I have seen from this side of the mountain. A lot of snow for the end of 2003!

Funny you should say that as this was the end of a period of very hot and dry weather that summer.

Yes, that was my point. I was in the Vallais in 2003, and the mountains there looked very dry indeed, yet it seems there was some snow about in the Bernese Oberland -- there is even the cornice running most of the way along the top ridge of Monch.
