Route: Birch Climb (HS 4a) Climbers: None Camera used: Nikon D600 Date taken: 1st September 2016
The mature Birch used by climbers for more than 60 years, finally succumbed to its own weight and collapsed in early August. Its a climb I enjoy and have done numerous times since the mid 60's so quickly noticed it missing.
I climbed the route in its new form on Aug 14th. The climbing is now much more strenuous and harder [VS 5a], needs big gear. I would compare the climbing to that of Central Crack on Cracked Buttress. I reported the ascent to the Leeds Wall site, and suggested the climb be renamed NO BIRCH CLIMB.
