The wires leading to the top of Half Dome in the days before you needed a permit. An easy scramble (without the wires)

Are you saying it goes as an easy scramble if you don't use the cables? I have heard that it's a similar grade to Snake Dike without them.

Without the cables it is no easy scramble

I remember it as being pretty easy without needing to use the wires going up. There was hardly anybody there on a stunning September day. Coming down is quite exposed and would take a bit of time without the wire.

Did you climb just to the left of the cable route, or on it (without using the cables), or to the right? Or what? Genuinely intrigued. Regardless of the grade, I think it would be a serious solo.

Just to the left to avoid the people coming down the centre. There are two wires with wood boards placed across the rock for steps between them. I was wearing a pair of trainers. I don't remember it being any issue. Coming down I used the wires but even then you have to leave them some times to get around the people who do get scared in places.
