Is that the top of Ruapehu?
Lankyman - 08/Jun/20
It’ll get even windier if that volcano erupts! :)

Yes it is Tahurangi. The highest Peak on Ruapehu and of North NZ.

Baron: This was taken a few days before White Island near by blew it's top. A sobering thought.

When I climbed it in 1982 the lake erupted just as I reached the rim. Just before I walked round the mountain in 1995 there was a big one that washed out some bridges. It's definitely not dormant!

Definitely not! It was an eye opener planning the climb and finding warning notices in the literature I was researching about what to do if the volcano erupted whilst we were climbing. My son suggested jumping in a Southerly direction and hope your ice axe slows you down. LoL Happily we climbed down Skyline ridge instead. That was pain full enough with the lose ice and snow being blasted at us from the snow fields to the West.
