More than a tad uncomfortable if you get onto overhanging terrain!
Even in those days it was easy to put a sling with a krab round the thighs, which made all the difference. Also, the rapeller should be wearing gloves and have half a twist in the rope round the left hand.
This figure is typical of the rather dubious advice that appeared in Showell Styles' books, which we emulated when we were young and foolish!

This "classic" method of abseiling/rappelling is not going to enhance the anatomical distinction between males and females.
