I love playing ‘Name that Hill’ especially when I’m on my own as then I’m always right ;-) … but I was completely flummoxed when I saw this behind me as I headed up Sgor Gaoith after an early start to see the sunrise above the forecast inversion. I was thinking: Nevis?! Meggie?! Dover?!!… later I found out it was a ‘Fata Morgana’ mirage caused by the inversion… most likely above Ben Alder and Sgur Iutharn to its right.

… a reflection I have on this image is that the cliche of “the best camera is the one you have with you” is true, as I was glad I had brought one. BUT… I’ll admit I was wishing I HAD brought my best camera plus longer lens, as I’ve had to crop heavily here with resulting loss of detail. But it was a fascinating phenomenon, hence thought worth sharing despite that.

Like it. Lucky you!

Ah I appreciate that thank you. Although the pic is a little average compared to so many excellent images on here, including your own, it was a reminder of the magic that can happen in an inversion (as well as inspiration to improve my photography!)
