This was the first route of the season, with the South Wales Mountaineering club, in 1971. It turned into a major epic when two of our party fell and were saved by the fantastic quick thinking of Mike Danford (he saved dived on top of the third member, Helen Parsons, in a kind of rugby tackle, otherwise should be certainly have been plucked from the ridge and all three would have plunged to their deaths.) We then tied up as a rope of seven - with the two injured in the middle, with me at the front route finding and Mike Danford at the back as anchor man. Tears were shed once the safety of the moraine was finally reached, and Dave (Helen's husband) who had fallen off, pulling John Gresty with him, vowed to buy Dan a pint for a full year. He stuck to his vow.
Mike Danford was my climbing partner in the Alps for my best Alpine season.
