Classic example of the camera trying to expose two different levels of light and having to chose a halfway house that doesn't do justice to either light level. You may be able to take this into photoshop and separate the two areas and re-balance the light. The other route is to take two shots, one metered for each, then play jigsaws in post. Nice composition though. The sense of flow from the run-off is a nice lead into the frame.
