I retired all mine after the fall (2004). It was a bit frightening looking up at it afterwards but it did do its job!

It seems it was loaded with an open gate. Check the gate spring to make sure it's stiff enough to don't open when whiplashed.

No, as far as I know it was closed when loaded, I don't know why it opened as I was in mid air at the time. I'm guessing the shock loading caused the metal to bend/stretch & the gate to pop, maybe the gate opened at the same time. For certain it will not close now!
