Best Climbing Experience
They're all special of course, but it has to be Fireball at Fairhead [may 2008]. It was actually my hardest lead so was always going to be memorable, and does hold a special place in my memory for being my first E grade onsight, but it's more than just that. It felt like such a worthy route (not a soft touch, or a micro route, or a one move wonder), so even now I'm pleased at myself for battling my way up it; I had limited time as we had to rush for the plane but still managed to pull it out the bag; it was a lovely sunny day at an impressive crag so the vibe was good (and everyone else we met there was incredibly friendly). Even more important to me is that I climbed it with a good friend who was with me at my previous attempt at an E1, and who I've shared various climbing inspirations with - the whole weekend was a real team effort. Not to mention the fact that it's also an amazing route: 35 metres of pure jamming heaven! So a slightly self indulgent 'best climbing experience' perhaps, but that's just the way it is.
