In 2015 my partner and I did a trad climbing course with Pete greening of Kernow Climbing. It was life changing stuff especially at such a late stage in life. I was 45 at the time with high hopes of becoming a mountain leader and working towards my single pitch award. Previous to this I’d done a few courses with high mountain guide Neil McNab of McNab snowboarding, learning ski touring on a snowboard amazing times! The climbing went hand in hand for staying safe in the mountains. We went on to do a winter climbing course in Scotland with the late Martin Moran amazing person incredible teacher and climber. Sadly missed by many I imagine.Things were really coming together climbing at Hvs regularly spirts were high.
The next thing I know I’m sat in a hospital in Truro while a man tells me to forget climbing, your never do it again he said! Diagnosis with Rheumatoid arthritis my world fell apart. I couldn’t even dress myself at one point I couldn’t surf or ride. These were pretty dark times. I mean the was no spring chicken but still I had things to do ya know! 7 years has passed a lot of tears and struggle to get back on track. My partner stuck by me through it all even though it stopped her climbing. Thankyou Tara x. Two weeks ago we went back to Haldrene cove to test my strength and it was positive. We had a great time which brought us closer together. Last Monday I went to Trewavas head and tackled something a bit more vertical, Let’s just say my faith in my body has improved and now it’s restored confidence in my abilities. Got some new climbing shoes today things can only get better :)
