Originally, from the Highlands (Invergordon); currently the home of the World's strongest man. I joined the RAF in 1976, originally as a technical trade. I had to escape after the cake and arse party I'd made of my life at that point. Not my finest years. The after my first tour on a RAF Mountain Rescue. I realised that my passion lay in fitness and going to the mountains. So after a few hurdles were surmounted I managed to be selected to undergo re-training as a Physical Training Instructor (PTI). After gaining some semblance of proficiency I then worked as a mountaineering instructor at the Joint Service Mountain Training Centres in Scotland Ballachulish & Tulloch. Great times, until a wrist injury curtailed my time there. I then ended up at the RAF School of Physical Training where I eventually gravitated towards the role as Staff Instructor training lots of enthusiastic young 'uns to become PTIs. I also became heavily embroiled in coaching middle distance athletes and having realised that I did have some ability to learn. I embarked on a degree in Sports science then a Masters in High Performance Physiology. I also managed to put down roots in the West Country after a posting to Lyneham and re-started my climbing, cautiously due to my previous injury. Then I developed hip arthritis which resulted in another brief curtailment. After having a brief pity party I was fortunate enough to have John Alcock reach out to me when I put an 'all ports' alert on this platform in 2010. John gave me the confidence to get on with it and I had a hip resurfacing in May that year. When I realised the standard he was climbing at after that op. I surmised that a plodder like myself should have no issues whatsoever. Incidentally hip operations have improved exponentially since then. So don't suffer in silence get it fixed and come back climbing. I basically love my climbing. I'm fairly mediocre-if I'm honest-and my bouldering is.....we'll leave it at that. Trad or Sport, it's quality time spent with quality people in beautiful locations: mainly. I've climbed extensively all over the UK but not Pembroke! Yikes! Outside of climbing my interests are studying everything exercise related. I'm also fond of animals and consider them our fellow travellers. I also enjoy a drop of the red stuff. Time is pressing, we belong to a unique community enjoy every second whilst you can amigos.
