Been climbing for a lot of years. Climbed extensively in UK and Europe. Mainly trad rockclimber with occasional sport at Portland or sunnier climates in Winter. Nowadays mainly turned on by long, challenging rock routes in the Dolomites or similar. Just about tolerate indoor walls in winter, but avoid like the plague in Summer. Bouldering gives me brain death, but have been known to indulge if it's on a nice deserted beach somewhere.

Best Climbing Experience
Still climbing to a reasonable standard at my time of life. But in addition :-Doing the Moon at Gogarth because it lives up to its title of 'the best route in the world'. Doing the Steger Route on Catanaccio, Dolomites Aug '03, bivvying on top and watching the sun come up over the Dolomites. Topping out on Yellow Edge on Cima Picolisima, August 2007, 38 years after retreating off it because my partner had a hangover. Long time to settle a score. Doing the Old Man of Hoy in June 2015 with Peter met through UKC 'Lifts and Partners' for the first time. Even though it knackered my foot and a whole years climbing has been trashed by an operation and being in plaster for six weeks.

Favourite Climbing-Related Discussion Topic
Like to question the 'climbing by numbers' syndrome often prevalent on here. If you want to do a route just read the guidebook and go do it. All that beta spoils the experience and is subjective anyway. Occasional failure is good for the soul and you find out about yourself.

Anything Else We Should Know
Experienced climbing coach and SPA, but don't hold that against me! I can still climb a bit. Older than most people that I climb with, but don't accept it as a limitation. 'It's only a number', not a disability, even if creaking knees and knackered tendons and joints tell me it is. Game for anything with a hint of adventure. Will always try to get one more route in so known for specialism in 'night climbing epics' Well ya gotta make the most of yer climbing day! Best onsight was some time ago and realistic best over the last few years has been E2/3 or F6b+/6c. Hopeless on indoor walls cos I can't stand thugging on overhanging cardboard!
