Emma Twyford and The Big Bang: on tour Press Release

© BMC TV

Watch the award-winning Big Bang film in cinemas and Patagonia stores this March. Join top climber Emma Twyford, comedian Niall Grimes and filmmaker David Petts, as BMC TV and Patagonia present a very special five-date Big Bang Tour.

Last September, when Emma Twyford powered, crimped and screamed her way to the top of The Big Bang at Lower Pen Trywn, she ended a three-year battle and entered British climbing's history books as the first British woman to break the 9a barrier.

David of Volo Digital was along for the journey from the very beginning, and his collaboration with BMC TV brought home Best Climbing Film at Kendal Mountain Festival in November 2019.

Now, thanks to the support of Patagonia, BMC TV are taking Emma Twyford, David Petts and Niall Grimes on a very special five-date tour this March.

Starting off in the Neuadd Ogwen cinema in Bethesda, the tour will be then heading to the Patagonia store in Manchester, headlining at the BMC Sheffield Adventure Film Festival on Saturday night, then travelling down to the new Patagonia store in Bristol before finishing with a big bang in London.

Niall Grimes – resident BMC climbing comedian – is hosting the events. He'll kick off with an intro chat with Emma and filmmaker David Petts, before the screening of the award-winning 30-minute film. Then there will be a lively Q&A session with plenty of prizes from Emma's sponsors.

The cinema events (£12 or £8 to BMC members) will be the place to catch the action on a big screen, and the no-charge Patagonia in-store events will be your chance to get up close and chat with Emma, David and Niall.

All proceeds from the events will be going to The Climate Project: a new BMC initiative to combat climate change on our moorlands.

A big thanks to the sponsors

This BMC TV/Volo Digital Film wouldn't exist without the generous support of DMM, Scarpa, Climbskin and FrictionLabs. They'll be joining all stages of the tour. Big thanks to Patagonia for their support in helping create this tour.

Emma is one of the very best climbers operating in the current British scene. She has flashed both E7 and F8a, headpointed E9 and is the first British woman to redpoint F9a.
