Anna Taylor's Classic Rock Round: Week 1 update Gear News

"Who's idea was this again?" I jokingly ask as Marc and I approach yet another huge hill climb. We've been cycling for around 9 hours at this point, and are still a few miles away from our stop for the night in Walton.

"Yours." He replies firmly, then we don't speak for a while, as just staying on our heavily loaded touring bikes becomes the priority. I reach the top of the hill first, and realise with joy that my bike Sat Nav is showing no more climbs today; the remainder of our journey appears to be flat!

It's day ten of our trip, and we've covered a lot of miles so far. We started in Penzance, and spent a day crag-hopping along the Cornish Coast before journeying inland towards Dartmoor national park. From there we did a huge stint on the bikes up to the coastal town of Ilfracombe, and took the ferry out to the beautiful Lundy island to climb the iconic line of the Devil's Slide. From there we headed North towards Bristol, and finished leg one of our adventure at the towering Avon Gorge.

If you haven't guessed already we are on a climbing and cycling trip - the UK Classic Rock round to be precise. What that means in essence is 83 climbing routes up to VS dotted all over the UK, and over 1,500 miles on the bike inbetween. Simple right?! Unfortunately not so much. This round has been attempted before on two separate occasions; neither parties finishing the entire list of climbs due to weather or nesting birds. I am attempting to be the first person to manage the whole lot in one trip, having started at a slightly different time of year to the two previous rounds, and with me is professional adventure photographer Marc Langley, who is managing to simultaneously cycle the whole distance with me, partner me on routes I can't solo, and documenting the whole trip from start to finish. I have a feeling I know who has the harder job…

One more thing I should probably mention is that Marc and I are the first to try this round by carrying all our gear with us from the start. I was originally going to attempt this with multiple partners for different legs who could bring along food and climbing gear (as was done in the past), but since Marc decided to come along for the whole thing the way I approached the challenge changed, and we decided to take everything with us from the get go. This has so far been making life difficult in terms of the sheer weight we are carrying on our bikes, but we are gaining fitness everyday, and despite our pace being glacial on some of the bigger hill climbs, i'm confident that this self-supported approach was the right decision.

Right now we are on the edge of Snowdonia, taking a rest day whilst we wait for a stint of bad weather to blow itself out. Tomorrow we start climbing again, and throughout the next few days we will travel to Tremadog, the Llanberis Pass and the Ogwen Valley - where the Welsh leg of our tour ends. It's already been a hell of an adventure, and I look forward to what the next few weeks will bring!

15,000 miles is quite a lot - is she cycling home every night too?! ;)

Documenting 83 climbs and 15,000 miles on social media must be exhausting...

Don't envy them heading to Scotland peak Monsoon season.

That was a typo, although 1,500 miles still sounds horrendous!
