It was at Easter 1959 that Frank Davies opened The Climbers Shop in Ambleside.

The outdoor scene was very different then. The Lake District had just one other shop catering to the needs of climbers. George Fisher had just opened in Keswick a few years earlier. At the time he wrote to Frank to say that there wasn't room for two outdoor shops in the Lakes!

Times change...this year we celebrate 50 years of The Climbers' Shop in Ambleside.

The Climbers' Shop, in conjunction with sponsors Lyon Equipment, thus have great pleasure in bringing Ed Luke's exhibition of portraits of many of the best British climbers of the past half century to the Lake District for Easter 2009.

You can view the Rock Stars Exhibition at Wilf's Cafe (www.wilfs-cafe.co.uk) in Staveley, situated between Kendal and Windermere on the A591, from Friday 10th of April.

You can view several of the portraits on Luke's website: Rockstarsexhibition.com
