Kendal Wall All new facilities

There have been many exciting developments at Kendal Wall over the past year, with improvements to existing facilities and completely new areas added to the fantastic building that is the Lakeland Climbing Centre.

Kendal CrazyClimb

At the beginning of 2014, Kendal CrazyClimb was opened and has proven to be a runaway succes. Based on the third floor, it has bought in new clientele who have never visited Kendal Wall before but it has also given an opportunity for our existing customer base to introduce friends and family to climbing in a fun environment, without having to learn about ropes, clipping bolts and belaying.  Taking about one and a half hours, it also means that you can get a quick climbing session in whilst friends and family are at Kendal CrazyClimb!

Skyline

The Skyline is Europe’s first indoor via ferrata.  It is modelled on a traditional via ferrata from the Italian Dolomites and is just like the real thing - but indoors!  The Skyline experience is led by a qualified via ferrata guide, who will accompany you all the way. You can ascend steep ladders, squeeze through tight tunnels, swing from wall to wall and boldly leap or tiptoe over scarily high wooden planks and platforms.  Finally, for the ultimate thrill, the Sky Jump Extreme involves a 20 metre descent with the option of 6 metres of free fall at the outset!  Terrifying for most climbers!

The new Toolbox

Toolbox

The Toolbox is the latest of our new facilities. This is the area where you can practice varying techniques: dry tooling, aid climbing, trad placement and different rope techniques all from the safety of in-situ top ropes. This is another exciting new facility from The Lakeland Climbing Centre and a great excuse to spend more time at the climbing wall.

New 50 degree woody

Training

There have also been upgrades to Kendal Wall’s training facilities, with a lot of input from the training guru himself, Neil Gresham. The Moon Board has been converted to a 40 degree problems board, under the 'Routing Roof’ we now have a 50 degree ‘woody’ that has proved to be very popular with the strong youngsters (and the strong oldsters!) and facing this is a new full height campus board. So whatever your leaning, we have a training angle for you: 15° & 30° ‘woodies’ in the training room and a 50° ‘woody’ with 30°, 40° & 58° problem and circuit boards in the Marmot Loft.

Spring plans include a full revamp of our changing rooms (yes, a bit boring but after 20 years, it really needs to be done), and a new big order of holds and volumes.  The bouldering in the Loft is also going to have more overhanging walls added in May.
