Alpkit Ambleside Store now open! Gear News

© Alpkit

OK so our Ambleside store has been open for a couple of weeks now, but we've been spending that time settling in and meeting customers old and new and now the scaffolding is coming down!

There's a lot to live up to and we really hope that we can do Ambleside justice and help maintain the long standing tradition it has as a key destination for those who enjoy getting outdoors. With waterproofs, wetsuits, a range of clothing layers, cookware and bikes, we'll be bringing a full range of equipment to help cover activities from hill walking, fell running and wild swimming, to climbing and biking. We really do hope that we can fit in nicely amongst this awesome location that has so much to offer the outdoor lover.

So this coming weekend of 21st - 23rd July we'll be having a bit of an opening-do at the Ambleside store. Over the weekend there will be free Sonder bike demos, guided trail runs, guided mountain bike rides and then into the evening we'll have Alpkiteer Aleks Kashefi giving us a dose of inspiration from running 6000km across Europe to his next big project, as we open late with some live music thrown in.

To book on to any guided activities or to book a demo bike then contact the store.

Saturday: Guided Rides

Experienced local guide, Graham, will be leading guided rides for all abilities on Saturday at 10am and Sunday at 11am, starting at the shop. The ride is open to anyone who is self-sufficient and comfortable riding Lake District terrain, and the nature of the ride will depend on the ability of the group. Give us a call or drop in at the store for more information.

Guided Runs

On Saturday, we'll be meeting at the store at 10:30am and 1:30pm (we just can't get enough!) for guided runs with Mr Wayne Singleton, part-time Store Hero who spends the rest of his time leading guided runs and jogging programmes with Jogging Pals.

Ambleside is the perfect location for getting out running on the fells or trails, with everything from easy-going lakeside trails to the steep tracks on Loughrigg or Wansfell and high peaks of Fairfield. Partner that up with Jogging Pals' enthusiasm for social runs, team support, and awesome scenery and, well, you've got yourself a party!

The runs will take routes of various lengths on various terrains, ring the store if you'd like more details, otherwise: don't forget your running shoes!

Saturday: Inspiration

On Saturday evening Alpkiteer and barefoot runner Aleks Kashefi will be in store to give a talk and show a film. He's just got back from running over 6000km from the North of Europe, all the way South, and is already planning his next big adventure. After the talk you'll be able to fire some questions at him about previous adventures and his future plans. Aleks' talk will start at 6pm and will last for about an hour.

Saturday: Late Night opening

The store will be open until 9pm for drinks, nibbles, and live music: come on down, meet the team, and enjoy a beer on us.

Sunday: Recuperation (in the form of coffee)

Rinaldo's coffee truck will be parking up at the store on Sunday morning to soothe any sore heads from Saturday night. What better hangover cure than with excellent artisan coffee from Rin's very own roasters in Kendal and a little bit of sustenance to get you into the swing of the day.

Sunday: Guided Run with Aleks Kashefi

Alpkiteer Aleks Kashefi will be leading a guided run from the store at 11am with all abilities welcome. Please contact the store to book or enquire.

Ambleside now gives us our second physical shop, sitting along side Hathersage and this is yet another step in offering our customers the full Alpkit experience as a destination to actually see the products in the flesh, whilst still backed up with the level of online customer service we've been highly recognised for over the years. With increasing stores it's not going to change how we work things. We've always tried to be open and friendly, even though we've been hidden inside your computer screen, and maintaining the service levels and personality will continue to be incredibly important to us. So whether you're in the Lakes or Peak District, pop in to say hi to our friendly staff.

Cool evolution.... I remember buying a boulder mat about 10 years ago, I guess website hadn't been open that long, and it coming with a sweet handwritten note. Good luck with the shop!

They still do the handwritten notes with online orders. Feels like a bit of a pointless gimmick to me but if you like it, it's still available.
