I have a Truvativ Crank on my off road bike and I can't tighten the crank without a 16mm hex key or by improvising a hex with a bolt with a 16mm hex head on it. I've spent hours scouring the web to no avail. Anyone got any idea where I could get one?

Google for 16mm Allen.

One of the results: http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=113855

Failing that, try Halfords - they had an larger sized socket when I was looking for something to fit my motorbike.

Thanks guys, got one for a tenner. They'll probably change the design on the next generation so I have to buy even more esoteric tools.

I paid £16 for a crank puller earlier in the week to get an obsolete crank out and that tool will probably never be used again!

Is that for a square taper shimano crank?
To use them on Octalink cranks (also a bit old) you can shove a 5p coin down onto the end of the BB axle before you use the puller to make it work.

Log onto ebay.co.uk and view item 230273661578. Any good?

Are you sure you need the 16mm hex key to tighten? I have a Truvativ crank on my MTB. The 16mm hex key is used to put in the disc with which the 8mm bolt pushes against to remove the crank arm. I don't actually need the 16mm hex to tighten the crank arm, just an 8mm hex to tighten up the bolt. It may be that the road bikes are different...I know next to nothing about road bikes I'ma afraid.

I'm MTB
It says in the instruction booklet that came with the crank to use a 16mm Hex wrench and torqu to 10 ft/lb.

Any one got any idea what that feels like xos I'm not spending £40 on a torqe wrench etc.?

In reply to Oli:

It was an octalink crank and they seem to be going obsolete with the advent of outrider stye external bearing cups such as on Shimano hollowtech or Truvativ Stylo GXP
