Looking for a new cycling jersey for hot weather, going to the Pyrenees this summer, including doing the etape du tour so dont want to be shown up by the continentals, quite like the Rapha lightweight jersey but its EXPENSIVE plus there is the obvious associations with rapha and mamils from the financial sector in London.
Nothing lairy white and black or similarly muted colours no logos any help out there?
Also recomendations for pocket size rain cape would be much appreciated

also not a baggy fit want some encouragement to slim down so slimmish fit

Thanks

Pearl Izumi? Not sure from your pot if white is god or not, but their climbers jersey isn't too logo covered, but cool and white. there are others, but with logos

My experience of riding on the continent was that all the Swiss wear BMC replica kits and everyone else wears something from the Europe mainland. I suggest a Team Sky replica jersey to announce your Britishness ... but then I am completely and utterly biased.

Good luck, hard to find a nice one...

If you don't mind me hijacking your thread, if anyone has an old pink ONCE top (pre Eroski) in large that they don't need, please pm me. Been a fetish of mine for years.

For value for money and quality you just can't beat dhb clothing from Wiggle.

Planet X have some nice ones too.

I will also be doing the Etape - possibly in a team Garmin Barracuda top...

... which is a plug for Castelli gear.

I will be carrying a Sportful hotpack windproof gilet and a set of arm warmers and hoping for better weather than 2012.

Would all Brits be allowed to wear a Team Sky top?

In reply to jethro kiernan: I'm not sure I understand the idea of muted colours, but have a look at the Bioracer site. Whilst strictly they specialise in custom fit stuff, they do seem to have a number of off the shelf things advertised on there.

I have one of there's and it's good in warm weather, and a decent technical fit - muted it isn't though, being bright orange (and happening to have Armitstead on the back!).

I also quite like the Northwave and Santini ones; I've happily used them in the Canaries in the summer.

In reply to jethro kiernan:

Team sky is definatly a no no (unless you ride for team sky :-0 )

Or unless you want to star on the "Full Pro Kit Wankers" Facebook page

Seriously though, apart from my club kit, I pretty much buy all my kit from these guys here:http://www.ekoi.fr/fr/

Quality is excellent, I like the designs and the price is good too.

I think this is incredible value for jersey and bibs - 85€

I have the winter stuff, bib longs and long sleeve top and it's great.

In reply to Enty:

Cheers Criag, still quite a lot of labels good value stuff going to have a good look through the website, winter longs could do with replacing for next year though is there no end to the money that can be spent?

In reply to jethro kiernan:

I like Morvelo. It is made in the same factory as Rapha but is half the price.
It's good gear, I have more than I need with regard to cycling clothes including
gore bike wear
Dhb
northwave
Pearl Izumi
Santini
Bianchi
Altura
Morvelo
Hincapie (these are very good too, like their bibshorts)
 AlisonSmiles 18 Feb 2014
In reply to jethro kiernan:

Actually, a second vote for Morvello. Classy, well made, classic and yet individual. Like it.

Really? Morvelo state clearly their stuff is made in Europe and most Rapha stuff is put together in China - I'm not saying either's better, mind.

 sleavesley 19 Feb 2014
In reply to andy:

Yes really. Rapha have had stuff made in the UK, Italy and the Far East. Morvelo use the same factory in Italy that Rapha use. But I believe all Morvelo products are made there rather than select items as is he case with Rapha.
Morvelo disclosed this information in one of their emails prior to the launch of the new thermoactive range.

I have both the normal summer and thermoactive jerseys and bib tights, they are of good quality and I really like the thermoactive stuff for autumn/spring weather.
The gilet is good with waterproof qualities and breath ability as well as visibility.

In reply to jethro kiernan:

Tørm clothing uses the same material (and surprisingly similar design) as rapha but is much cheaper. I have a couple of their short sleeve jerseys - the full zip one is excellent but the short zip one isn't great for hot weather. Worth a look at www.torm.cc

In reply to jethro kiernan:

Morvelo house black looks good as a allround jersey
ShuttVR, already have a long sleeved jersey (bike radar £40) material would be a bit warm for continental summers same with the Torm jerseys.

Unfortunatly may question may end up with me getting several jersey's :-/
spring /autumn, high summer, new winter jersey oh and the sportful hotpack

at least its cheaper than wheels Enty!
 Enty 19 Feb 2014
In reply to jethro kiernan:

I know - just about to head to the bike shop

The Morvelo kit looks good.

Regarding the Merino stuff - we have quite a lot of guests with the rapha tops - better pray for shit weather in the Pyrenees if you have Merino on.

E
In reply to Enty:

yeh thats why I would go for the lightweight top if I got a rapha, also while I ruled out the ShutVR and Torm, eisier to put a layer on than bake in a thick top.

What wheels you go for?

In reply to jethro kiernan:

As pricey as Rapha is, I like the stuff and free repairs are handy and look really solid (having just received some bib tights back after a crash). Oh and I am far from a City Mamil.

Some of my other jerseys come from Prendas and tend to be Santini, decent quality and some excellent service.

My Dhb top has a weird fit and just doesn't match other gear but that is what you pay for and it isn't terrible.
In reply to IMA:

I have some DHB kit and the winter bib tights have seen me through some rough weather, quite fancy a couple of quality nice items in the cycling wardrobe as a treat.
I am sure some very nice people (non Bankers) own Rapha gear and I hope to expand my collection from the pair of socks I was bought by my good wife

There's a Scott clearance sale on at http://startcycles.co.uk , the jerseys are decent quality and a really good price.

Endura do reasonably priced kit and most of it is debranded and good to look at.

I'd also have a look at Castelli - it's classic Italian kit and the stuff I ached for as a kid, but had to make do with cut off old trackie bottoms and a nylon t shirt.

I do wonder when I see the Full Trade Team Wankers - saw a fat man in a full Sky kit the other day, and another in Garmin and another in BMC. Apart from your club kit, one should never co-ordinate.

A retro trade team top yes. I wear my ANC Halfords top with beer gutted pride....

Some people are tri athletes Enty!, others just prefer balanced tan lines

Sports Pursuit have a load of cycling stuff on sale at the moment, though I have never used them and no idea how much of a discount they really provide

In reply to jethro kiernan:

Surely there's only one choice -- a UKC Velo top -- a most desirable and unique item of apparel, so much so that my daughter snaffled mine when I visited her in Canada last summer!

It's about time Rubbishy was getting another batch ordered.

Not even triathletes should be tempted by sleeveles jerseys

or maybe some of us are completely tanned anyway and live in a country where we regularly cycle in temps of 32C+

The good thing about Morvelo is I'm pretty much the only person in the area that wears it!
Saying that most others are in club kit!

I have a Montane super lightweight jacket that's perfect on the bike. and not expensive either. Got me round Time Megeve and the lake Geneva sportive last summer, both in the hail/sleet/rain. Wasn't bone dry but nothing would have worked in the weather even my full ski kit!
