Just fitted a speed/cadence meter to my bike and paired it with my Garmin 310XT watch. When trying it out (stationary with no GPS signal) I was getting a speed indication based on wheel speed. I haven't entered a wheel circumference into the watch and can't find anywhere to enter one so how can this be accurate? I thought the speed indication would still have been obtained via gps?

In reply to Alan.T: I believe it self calibrates, i.e. it compares the reading from the cadence sensor to the gps readings when actually moving, so shouldn't need manual entering of a wheel size.

The procedure if it's never been taken out with the cadence sensor on, I'm not sure - maybe it assumes a default value.

In reply to Alan.T:

Have you ridden outside with the GPS turned on? If so then it has automatically determined your wheel size - or it will next time you ride outside.

Otherwise:

press & hold mode to select bike mode.
press mode > settings > bike settings > bike name > bike details >

select custom in wheel size field if you wish.

page 41 here http://www.tramsoft.ch/downloads/garmin/manuals/garmin_forerunner310xt/fore...

I've always just left my Garmin on auto calc.

In reply to interdit and Liam M:
Ok, thanks for that, found the bike details and it is in auto with wheel size showing 2100mm. This must be a default setting as I haven't been out on it yet with sensor fitted. Will check it changes after a ride.
Cheers
