I am a 4th year college student studying product design at the University of Houston, and for my current design project I am researching bouldering shoes. As a climber myself I want to see if I can innovate on the current bouldering shoe. I would really appreciate y'all filling out my survey. It's not too long, and works on both pc and mobile.

A like or share both go a long way!

Filled it out, answered no to modified but I have had shoes resoled in non-original different rubber, and repaired elements of them.

What's a compression climb?

In reply to DaveHK:

When you're going up using 2 wide side pulls. Also known as "Fridge hugging".

I’ve done the survey but I’d suggest many of the questions are flawed?

- What’s the difference between an overhang and a roof?

- It seems to assume I only own and use a single pair of shoes.  I have many.

- When asking about favourite performance aspects, you don’t ask about grip.  Grip is quite important to me.

- It doesn’t account for the fact that different characteristics are required depending on what I’m climbing at the time.

- There were no questions about how much I climb indoors and outside.

- I’d have gone with scoring each aspect - E.g. how important is durability to me?

I hope that helps a little.

I like the overhang / roof distinction as it is described on wikipedia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overhang_(rock_formation)

because while it depends on the degree of steepness beyond vertical, it doesn't seem to involve any sort of other variable. So e.g. a section where one very slender slab overlaps another slab could count as a roof so long as the angle of the rock beneath the overlap is horizontal to the ground. Achievement unlocked.

Randomly, I was talking to a mate at work - a non-climber.  He was asking why we didn’t call them ceilings (instead of roofs).

What the hell does prioritising the rand mean…

Do I have bouldering shoes or climbing shoes?
