Hi everyone. I believe this is my first post. I have searched quite a lot about this, both on here and generally online, but I can't seem to find any info on where the routes are at Carn Brae.

The crag page obviously mentions the grades and where each route is in relation to other routes, and there are lots of comments from people saying they have done each route, but how do they know!? How does anyone know where the routes go, where the start and finishes are etc.

I would love some guidance on this please. Myself and my partner are camping down the road for a week and will be going there to boulder, but at the moment it sounds like we're just going to guess what we're climbing!

Thanks

Boulder Britain has some info if you can get a copy of it.

Failing that:

the Snoopy boulder is on your left immediately next to the road/track between the first parking area and the second parking near the castle;

the Pickled Walnut boulder is further down the hill and slightly left, following a path from the second parking down in the direction of the town;

the Classic Aretes boulder (which is probably the best area for a first visit) is up the hill (from the first parking) past the big monument, then down the other side to your right; and

the Pond Wall boulder is just above the Classic Aretes area.

That should give you enough for a couple of visits.

Boulder Britain has enough problems for you to get your bearings. For other problems, we used a mixture of the UKC descriptions and YouTube/Vimeo/Instagram.

From memory (I've only had one brief session there), a lot of the bouldering was across from the parking and was maybe visible from the car. Then there was some more boulders on the other side, past the castle/restaurant.

I hope you've brought plenty of skin! I've never climbed anywhere as tough on the skin as there.
