Hey all, apologies if this is in the wrong topic area, pesky computers, don't get them!

Fairly new to climbing, enjoying the wall at Undercover Rock, moving onto lead now and playing around at various bouldering rooms whenever I get a chance...getting stronger and having a great time!

Looking on the forum people have mentionned bouldering around Bath - Bathampton I think...was wondering if anyone would be able to shed a little light on their location, or ideally accompany me for a session there sometime? Looking for people to climb with in the area, indoors/outdoors, anything would be great!

Please get in touch if you are interested!

Cheers,

Paul

At Avon Gorge between the sea walls and the suspension bridge there is a great bouldering wall. Other than that there's a nice bouldering wall up at Winterbourne (top of the M32, there's a map on here.

For leading in Bristol the gorge is the best probably, but for shorter climbs Blaise Castle is great. I'll be going to the place on Avon tonight...

I think you'll find that is a slight exageration!!

Maybe it's not narrow enough...there's a really nice wall next to the sea walls past the old quarry.

there's a cave accessible from near the tower on the top of the crag (by desnding to the right of it) called gollums cave, this has some goodish if hard bouldering.

There is some bouldering nr bath at somewhere called bathford rocks.

Otherwise for proper bouldering your looking at dartmoor or ogmore.

none of these places at the base of the gorge are really nice i used to go to them all in my lunch hour. at best they are OK and good for teaching you how to climb on severe polish.

In reply to thomasadixon:
there some ok bouldering on sea walls near the hippy graffetti and also on main wall too.

In reply to CurlyStevo:

Yea the whole place is seriously polished, still fun though.

In reply to thomasadixon:
none of it strikes me as that good before it was polished. Have you done much proper bouldering (on actual boudlers!)? nearly every other place I've been has been much better than this!

In reply to CurlyStevo:

Nope, that section is the best that's easy for me to get to - ie, on my way home. Alright there's no overhang for most of the time and St. Werburghs does better but it's still good fun and there are some difficult sections and some easier ones.

Does it really matter that much?

In reply to CurlyStevo:

Say half a year ago I was in (seems like) exactly the position that this guy is in - got into leading at Undercover rock and really enjoying bouldering down there, I found it a really nice place when I started climbing without ropes outside.

In reply to thomasadixon:
you shud try bouldering at dartmoor or ogmore for a much improved experience.

Wow loads of replies, cheers guys! I have heard of the these "sea walls" but not climbed them yet...enjoying the wall in Bristol but the money and indoor nature is getting to me a bit! Great for practise tho... Reckon my first outdoor ventures for now will be Sport climbing down at Portland?

In reply to grom:

By the way there is a little sport climbing at Avon Gorge..never done it myself but noticed other people going up, looks quite good. There's some over at Portishead Quarry too.

Don't know about Portland cause I'm stuck in Bristol...will get there sometime though, heard it's great.
