yep another bouldering mat question...!

I've narrowed down what I need to either the Snap Grand Rebound or the Snap Grand Guts, as I'll occasionally be bouldering by myself only up to about 15ft but there for confidence as much as safety.

I've found loads to tell me how brilliant the grand guts is but absolutely nothing about the grand rebound - does anyone have any experience with the rebound I seriously cannot find one review online.

Also was originally looking at the Moon saturns but they don't seem to last vey long (internal padding getting soft quickly) - quite disapointed

Classic UKC answer: neither. Snap pads don't last very long in my experience. I'd recommend a BD Mondo Pad, which is super robust, massive and really nice to land on.

Best quality mats of all sizes seem to be made by Organic, although I’ve a 10 year old Moon Saturn which has done tons of service in UK and Europe and is still in great shape. I really like the Snap pads when they’re new, but they haven’t lasted well for me.

Can't comment on the rebound, but have a grand wham and can vouch for the air cell technology (that the guts also has) giving a great landing from different heights and being very confidence inspiring

Worth looking at the Flashed pads, I have been using them for the last year and really rate the quality and landing from height. Sorry not to answer your question directly.

In reply to telesteve: I prefér my Saturn to a Mondo i sometimes borrow,  but the latter is perfectly ok.

I've never regretted buying a big pad

Being totally obvious, I used to sell Snap pads in the UK and now sell Flashed.

I absolutely love Snap pads, comfy landing, good for the ankles. BUT, I noticed in the few years I was doing it a definite decrease in quality (sorry Snap) had a bunch where the velcro was peeling and had to be re-stitched. and they're heavy!

Now I do Flashed and honestly I really like them, the attention to detail from the Canadians to make a really robust pad shows and the carry system is awesome. I used to think it didn't matter that much as whatever the system was you're just carrying a lump of foam anyway but this is decent. As I mentioned I do sell them in the UK so have a very definite personal opinion on the pads but there's my honest thoughts for you

One of my first pads was a Moon Saturn as I just went for the biggest and because it was taco and I stored in closed the centre fold went soft pretty quick. Gran Rebound or the Flashed both have a hinge so storing folded isn't an issues.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the replies guys, its stuff likethis thats really helpful...

reviews in magazines are usually using new items and you never get a real long term review when the stitching starts coming loose and the foam is as good as a pillow within 6 months - i did wonder about the longevity of aircell blocks.

i forgot to mention a hinge is essential as i dont have room for a 160 taco unfolded

i love the look of the organics but the 5inch is nearly £100 over budget, and 2nd hand rarely appear, i'll have a look atthe flashed pads too...

but any other comments ideas please let me know

Have you looked at the Alpkit mats?

I wouldn't get the Organics ones. I hear Bill Gates has put a chip in so he can track where you're climbing. Or is that the covid jab? I get so confused

Actual reason to avoid organic: despite the name and marketing mumbo jumbo, they are in fact not actually organic
