Hi, does anyone know something about or know where to find info on the bouldering area outside Madrid called El Escorial? Heard some good things about it but cant find a topo or map to get there, any help appreciated.

Near La Pedriza just north of Madrid. Detail on the extremekanal website. It's one of the top ten bouldering areas in Europe (acc. to extremekanal). It looks really good. If you get there post back how it is.
Have fun!

Hi mate, the extremekanal wont tell you anything, ots an advert for there DVD wich will be out in a couple of weeks, featuring some bouldering from there.
The bouldering is shit hot out there, the locals are friendly and will show you good circuits

This link will give you a good idea of the climbing

This is all the circuits just north again, one of the better bouldering areas, and only about 45 mins drive from madrid.

you do have to watch out there, a lot of the bouldering and climbing is on private land, so cosult local climbers if you are unsure.

There is a guide book for sale in the climbing shop at madrid.

Also if you get in touch with http://www.escuelasdeescalada.com here are all the climbing topos you will need, but no bouldering

there is a magazine in spanish that did a 112 page spread on the bouldering out there, and is fantastic, you can order it below, its a back issue that was produced about 12 months ago, beware it will take about 2 months to arrive here

El escorial is pretty famous by its buildings...but the boulder area is in a place called "bosque de las herrerias".
Those days are being so hot here, maybe you should come in a month or so!

In reply to Neil@canaryclimbs: Hi Neil, thanks for the info. Ive got to go El-esorial for a couple of days to meet friends but will def. check the other places out. Thing is I have directions from that Extremekanal website to get there by car and park at the cafe (as in the el escorial boulders), but have no clue about what to do then, are the boulders close by or is it a horrendous walk in? also are they any "key" boulders to aim for with the classic lines on? thx again.
