Was just wondering if anyone knew of any gyms in the North West with kilterboards/Moonboards? Looking to improve my dynamic strength and haven't tried either before.

In reply to Alfie Hunt:

The Boardroom in Queensferry has a Moonboard with the latest 2019 hold set-up.

Rockover in Manchester has a Moonboard with 2016 hold set-up (don't think this has been updated to the later set-ups?)

The Beacon in North Wales has a Kilter board.

There's a private Moonboard in the NW too.

Some, but not all of these locations are listed on the Moonboard homepage: https://www.moonboard.com/MoonBoard/Overview

You may also find that lots of walls have training boards which are unbranded, and work just as well

Kendal hasn't got a Moonboard any more, but it has been replaced with a very good LED board.

Apart from those already mentioned, Boulder Hut has a really good training board (Hardwood Holds I think) and training area around it.  The Hangar Matchworks also has a Hardwood Holds board and the Hangar Sandhills have a custom home made big, steep board too. All of these are just as good as a moonboard (personally I would say mostly better as I prefer the wooden holds) for using at a wall. I think the advantages of the moonboard app etc come in to their own at home.

Sadly it's been closed for nearly a year now hoping it can re-open but the signs don't look good sadly.

I know such a shame, my local wall sadly.

In reply to greg_may_:

yeah, I now work in Brighouse so I messaged them a while back and it didn't seem very hopeful from their side of things sadly.

The new wall in Bradford is quite nice.

Yeah I went 5 or 6 times actually when we could. Really enjoyed the space and I'm just hoping they create a little more space for some more lead climbs (but that's maybe a little selfish). I spoke to one of the owners, think he has another gym in Leeds? and he said there are loads of plans in store so I'm pretty hopeful it will become a regular spot for me in rotation with the depots.

Good shout. I know they’ve a lot of plans, the upstairs area has plans to I believe.
Give a shout when all this is over, would be good to meet up with some local ish people to remember what socialising is

Live in Hebden Bridge, but work in Elland.

Oh the irony.

Has MacLeod got one perhaps?

They may serve a purpose but I am not sure if they are par with Moon/Kilter. For a start if there is no LED system you spend ages trying to remember sequences. If there is no app then you can't log your progress. If there is no international community of setters etc...

In reply to Morgan Woods:

I think the Hardwood Holds and Beastmaker type wooden ones are better than a moonboard personally, the holds are much friendlier and all the new ones now have built in digital/app systems too.

cheers - good to know there are other options.

In reply to Morgan Woods:

There’s no LEDs on rock either last time I checked

Write your progress down or lots of non-brand boards use apps too

But there are a raft of local setters. I’m not familiar with the kilter board, but the is a lot of shite moonboard problems about.

Ive got nothing against these branded boards, but if you want to train on a steep board then any 40 degree board with decent holds will work just as well. Even better if they’re wood and use small feet

I've got one in Ballachulish if you're 'proper' North West

Oh and if you're looking for nice problems I wrote this little app to search for them based on holds

Yeah of course. I usually go after work or if the weather is bad on a Sunday morning. The owner said they are planning to put in a full gym upstairs?

I work in Brighouse.

I think the rockover one has been updated to the 2017 setup now. I went just before the current lockdown and it had the red holds on it from the 2017 set anyway

That's it everyone, we can all go home. We've hit peak UKC.

Shame. Maybe we can get moon to fit an led kit to right wall, and maybe add a new yellow colour for gear placements. Now we’re talkin’
