Hello all,

Got a bouldering trip planned for next week, weather is looking decent but some rain. Plan is to hit mainly mountain crags weather permitting, however I know if it's raining in the mountains it tends to be good weather in surrounding areas so looking for crag suggestions grades from easy to 7C.

We're staying in Betws-Y-Coed so preferably not a massive drive.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

Porth Ysgo is great. It's a bit of a drive, but its location means it is often dry when the mountains are wet.

Parisellas cave is often dry when it is raining. It's very steep, very polished, surrounded by tourists, and the cave is full of sheep/goat poo. People tend to love it or hate it.

Other potentially dry limestone options are The Gop, Pnatymwyn and tremerchion.

Yeah I've wanted to go to Porth Ysgo for a long time maybe this is my opportunity if the rest of my group don't mind the drive!

The drive is up there on the views as well, and the climbing is excellent. We did the same thing from Llanberis on a wet trip up there and it was the most memorable day of the trip (aside from popping a pulley on the Wavelength boulders on the last day..).

Not bouldering, but snakes and ladders is a great mediocre weather activity, although you might not want to bring ropes and harnesses ect.

How to do the abseils into Lost World / Mordor without a rope?

Porth Ysgo would be my first choice. There is also  Cae Du but it depends a lot on beach height.

In reply to Dunthemall:

Cae Du is barely worth a trip from Tywyn IMO

In reply to Dunthemall:

Phrased that badly, I meant they might not want to bring all the gear needed on a bouldering trip for a possible wet weather activity. Not to do snakes and ladders solo!

You could be right Ian, the second ttime i went there 1/2 the height was missing.
