The Vertebrate one or the Rockfax one, or some other guide? Any recommendations for someone who prefers stuff at the easier end of the grade spectrum?

The Rockfax Tome. It details all the easy stuff other guides leave out. It lists 17 green circuits to do spread over the peak (upto 5a) and just as many orange circuits (5a to 5c)

For "punter" bouldering, definitely RF. It's got loads of green stuff and as said above, 17 green circuits (4 to go 😁).

Until the RF came out I hadn't seen anything which inspired me to do some "serious" bouldering.

The Vertibrate guide is good if you're good enough to be getting up 7A, but is frankly depressing if you only operate at a lower level and you either don't or can't aspire to those higher grades.
