I seem to be having a bit of a glut on films and music and films recently but there you go!

Lucky to have some time to myself this afternoon so I had a brew and watched Kill Bill part 1. Best fight scene for me by far is good ole Uma and the fight in the club against the crazy 88 and whoever gets on her way, love it!

Recommend me some more

In reply to Denni:

Hmmm plenty of recent ones. However, I do still love:

Rooster Cogburn: I mean to kill you in one minute, Ned. Or see you hanged in Fort Smith at Judge Parker's convenience. Which'll it be?
Ned Pepper: I call that bold talk for a one-eyed fat man.
Rooster Cogburn: Fill your hands, you son of a bitch!

Rooster with horse reins in teeth rides towards the four of them, guns blazing. The result was never in doubt of course but I still have to watch it from time to time.

Catch this one Denni, "Bad day at Black Rock". The film is a minor classic.

Stellar cast....Spencer Tracy, Ernest Borgnine, Robert Ryan, Lee Marvin.
and a unusual fight scene.
Tracy is a one-armed Korean veteran, the local red-necks get a surprise.

Think this fight from The Bourne Supremacy is a classic http://movieclips.com/Ptvp-the-bourne-ultimatum-movie-bourne-vs-desh/ ( if you drag the player across to 1.12 thats where it starts .

Loved alot of the scenes in The Raid as well very entertaining I thought .

Some of the fights in the Ip Man films are classic too as well as some Tony Jaa films , amazing choreography .

Good call. I also liked the Bartitsu/Baritsu fight scenes in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes films. Bartitsu is a Victorian hybrid/mixed martial art.

Just watched that. Amateur stuff. Yes some of it is brutal and fast but all the "one guy against multiple assailants" stuff suffers from that old "each goon waits his turn, hanging around until his cue to start fighting", which I thought had been solved by Corey Yuen's choreography in that ridiculous "Parisian police station karate class" scene in KOTD. And the editing is very choppy.

Yes you are right Blue but that was part of what I found entertaining to be honest , bloody hilarious some of it almost B movie~esque but it did tickle me , good old harmless yet brutal & messy fight fest !

I was very tired & possibly a ever so slightly stoned when watching it so I turned my Kermode critique head off that night to be honest . Did enjoy it though 80) .

Not as good as you might expect on the action front (final big fight in a mansion is good though), but the comedy stuff with Tsui Hark and friends (as Strepsil, Aspirin and Panadol) is splendid...to a point.

In reply to Denni:

maybe not the best as in most grand, but the biffup in the bourne movie where theyre in a flat in tangiers or somewhere. 2 guys really trying to nail each other.

the last few moments of the final fight in jackie chans the young master. theres a single leg movement where the old boy takes jackie down that looks totally unchoreographed and gets him by surprise.

If you mean THAT type of fighting you might as well watch "Knuckle", directed by Ian Palmer and starring James Quinn McDonagh. Can't get more real; than that.

In reply to Denni:
Lots of good ones out there and it all depends upon ones taste, for sheer daftness have a look at one of the Transporter films <can't remember which one> where in the bus depot, Statham tips over the oil to make everyone slip and slide and then gets on the 80's stylee racer bike with toe clips, snaps off the pedals leaving them attatched to his feet so he has a sort of crampon/foot 'knuckledusters' and is able to kick everyones ass without falling over! Statham is one tough SOAB as I used to ride toe clips for years and never managed to snap the pedal bolts ever, even after spilling out. Total daftness but entertaining none the less. If your taste has a more traditional leaning where various weapons and heavy objects are used then look no further than the classics of Tom & Jerry or for even an more gore-porn version - Itchy & Scratchy. For normal Saturday night outside of a kebab shop type of scraps you just can't beat anything from Fight-Club or Snatch.
Can't post links due to my employer prefering me to be more productive than just posting you tube links all day plus I'm not supposed to talk about fight-club anyway.

In reply to Denni:

I don't rate Kill Bill for fight scenes. I can just tell the whole time that Uma Thurman isn't a good martial artist (i.e. she holds a katana with the wrong grip) and it ruins it for me.

I love the fight scenes in old skool Jackie Chan movies. Most of the fight scenes and choreography in Drunken Master and Snake in the Eagle's Shadow are amazing for their athleticism, coordination and humour.

There's an incredible fight scene in The Legend of Fong Sai Yuk with Jet Li where he fights while running on people's heads.

Warrior contained some very realistic MMA-style fight scenes - particularly the final fight was good.

I also thought recently that the fight scene in Inception with the room rolling round and round was fantastic.
In reply to Denni:

John Cusack in Grosse Pointe Blank. Not flashy but realistic compared to the likes of the Matrix, Crouching Tiger etc... Nice film too.

How come no James Bond, no Lethal Weapon...??

Bourne scenes also hard to beat as others have said, for drama if not realism.

> (In reply to Denni) not the best film ever, but the fight between Achilles and Hector in Troy is the best fight I've seen. It's a few years old though so you may have seen it before

yeah that was good - seemed like a different kind of fighting system to anything i'd seen before.
 Blue Straggler 04 Feb 2013
In reply to ripper:

Yes, it was brilliantly choreographed. I think there are a lot of ancient images of men with spear, sword and shield, and it took a lot of imagination to choreograph how people could actually fight with all three.

The overall failure of the film means that the excellence of the fight details - especially that particular one - got overlooked.
